Water/Sewer Damage Restoration

DSG Restoration Services

DSG Restoration Services guarantees our clients that we will be on their property within 2 hours of their initial call to us. Once on site our trained staff takes immediate action to protect the inhabitants and preserve and protect the property by mitigating losses.
Our first responsibility when arriving at the site is to identify and eliminate any safety hazards. The safety of our clients is our first priority. For this reason, access to the affected areas is restricted to DSG personnel only. Once this is accomplished we identify any preexisting conditions, assess the extent of the water damage, determine the source of the water damage, determine water contamination levels, take necessary readings and gather additional relevant information, including pictures of the affected areas of the job site.
Our staff will then implement a plan which includes, water extraction, removal of affected contents to a dry environment, and installation of drying equipment (air movers and dehumidifiers). Within a very short time after arriving at the job site our team will have evaluated the extent of the damage and taken steps to reverse the effects caused by the flood.

DID YOU KNOW?

Fact: After a flood every minute counts. Immediate action is required to prevent secondary damage and prevent the growth of mold.

The insured is responsible for:

  1. Contacting their insurance company as soon as possible.
  2. Hiring a qualified restoration contractor as soon as possible.
  3. Keeping safety in mind, remove any personal items from the affected areas.
  4. Minimize loss by moping up excess water and removing wet items from the affected areas.

A Qualified Contractor Should:

  1. Be available 365 days a year, 24HRS a day and respond within 2hrs.
  2. Be certified by the IIRC in flood and water damage restoration.
  3. Have a minimum of $5,000,000 in liability insurance.
  4. Have up to date WSIB coverage.
  5. Be certified by the IICRC or IAQA in mold remediation so they can quickly deal with any mold issues that might arise (saves valuable time).

The Initial Assessment by the Contract Includes:

  1. Walk through water damaged areas and evaluate safety.
  2. Determine source of flood (if not done so already) and assist insured with affecting repairs prior to starting restoration procedures.
  3. Determine the category of the source of water (clean water, grey water or black water).
  4. Conduct testing of building materials and contents to determine migration of water.
  5. Develop a scope of work including what materials can be dried, what materials are not salvageable and how much drying equipment is required.

A Qualified Contractor will Require the Insured:

  1. To sign a Work Authorization Form so that restoration work can begin as quickly as possible to mitigate damages.
  2. To provide contractor will unrestricted access to the site.
  3. To not unplug equipment without consulting with the contractor. Doing so will prolong drying times and increase the likelihood of mold growth.
  4. Do not rearrange the drying equipment. They have been placed in such a way as to achieve the most effective drying.
  5. Set your HVAC system to 72 degree F and call contractor immediately if re flooding occurs.
  6. For your safety, you will be requested to stay out of the drying area until the restoration is complete, unless accompanied by contractor.

Inspection & Water Damage Emergency Plan
Our project manager and team will assess the damage and create a plan so we can start mitigating any further water damage to your structure and its contents.

Water Removal/ Water Extraction
When we encounter structures that have extensive water damage, we use our truck mounts along with our remote-controlled water extraction rover to extract the water. Both pieces of equipment remove large amounts of water quickly and efficiently to help prepare for removal of contents and setting of drying equipment.

Pack-out/ Cleaning/ Storage
After the initial water removal, we can bring your items to an on-site location — or to our secure warehouse — where they stay until repairs are completed. We may also be able to use a secure and dry location on-site if requested. We also clean any salvageable water damaged items before securely storing them.

Drying Equipment & Dehumidifiers
This is when we bring in professional grade dehumidifiers to remove moisture from salvageable materials, as well as commercial air movers to help with evaporation. We also have systems that can save your wood floors and dry out the cavities of walls and ceilings without completely demolishing the materials.

Testing
Before removing any material that has the potential to come back positive for asbestos such as drywall, joint compound or vct tile, we test for asbestos to ensure everything is handled safely. During this time, we are still drying out your structure. If an asbestos test comes back positive, we hire a third party abatement company to remove the affected material before proceeding with demolition.

Demolition
Final demolition takes place after the asbestos test results have come back negative, or after the abatement has been completed if the test was positive.

Dry Out Completion
At this stage, your structure has been monitored daily until moisture levels are no longer elevated. It’s also when our team removes the equipment and containment.

Restoration
This is the last phase of the process, but often the longest one. During this time, we work with you as our team starts the repairs that were agreed upon by you, your insurance company, and us. Because there’s so much to do, timelines can vary and may be longer than expected due to unforeseen damages, multiple parties involved, permitting, change orders, etc. We strive to maintain open communication and provides as much information as possible to our customers when changes or delays do occur.
